Man... Am I hung over, I am never drinking again.
I'll take "Things I've Heard Before" for a $1000 Alex.
Why do we lie to ourselves? Unless you actually do quit drinking, another night of multiple 12oz curls is in your future, followed by a morning of misery.
Do you think people would drink more often if there were no side effect's to alcohol? No more waking up feeling dehydrated with a headache, a nauseated
feeling in your stomach and fatigued. All the normal symptoms of a hangover.
Most likely people would, this however is not the world we live in.
The best way to deal with any of those symptoms is to get a better understanding as to what causes a hangover so you can start on the right path to relief.
Hangover causes in a nut shell:
Ethanol is the form of alcohol that is in alcoholic beverages, which is toxic to your system. So as you are drinking, your body is trying to get rid of these toxins.
One of the ways it does this is increased urination. That's why you have to go to the bathroom a lot when you drink, which in turn is why you get dehydrated.
Dehydration is a major role player when feeling hung over. It causes the headache from brain shrinkage and the parched feeling in your throat.
As your liver is trying to help break down the alcohol in your system, it stops sending glucose to the brain. Glucose is the main energy source
to the brain and without it you experience fatigue, inability to concentrate, and loss of attention.
Alcohol also depletes your system of needed vitamins and minerals. The big ones here are magnesium and vitamin B12. Magnesium depletion is associated with a
headache. Fatigue and a depressed state are associated with vitamin B12 depletion.
An additive called a congener is responsible for the smell and taste along with color in most sweet alcohols. Congeners have been known to enhance the
feeling of being hung over. Anyone who does shots of schnapps knows what I am talking about.
The nauseated feeling people get is the reaction of the alcohol to the stomach lining.
There may be other things that add to the severity, such as smoking and drug use, however the above mentioned are the main causes of feeling hung over.
The fact is that if you drink to excess, your body will make you pay the price as it wonders why you are were so determined to try and poison it. Now that you
